Hi Reader, In today’s newsletter, we’ll tackle the question that every aspiring e-commerce entrepreneur asks themselves at the beginning of their journey: “Is anyone going to buy my product when I launch?” Why is this such an important question? Because the success of your business depends on the demand for your products. If there’s no market for your product, you’ll go right ahead to invest time, money and effort into this venture … all for nothing. What will this look like? > Struggling to generate sales 💔 > Being frustrated about the lack of progress 😖 > Staring at your inventory at home and having it stare right back at you 👀 Unfortunately, many early stage entrepreneurs rely solely on their intuition, or their personal preferences when developing their products, assuming that if they like it, for sure others will too. This is a mistake. Yes, Passion is important, but it’s not enough to guarantee success. Other early stage entrepreneurs may actually do just a little market research but not be thorough and then they make products that totally miss the mark with their intended customers. 2 Foundational Steps to take before launch THOROUGHLY UNDERSTAND WHAT PEOPLE WANT & NEED: When you do this, you learn all about the people you’re trying to sell to: what they like, what they don’t like, how they shop, and what problems they have. You can use tools like surveys, talking to people, and checking out what your competitors are doing to figure all this out. It helps you see what your customers want and how you can make your business better for them. MAKE SURE IT WORKS IN THE REAL WORLD: Before you go all-in and buy a bunch of products, try making a test version first. Show it to some potential customers and see what they think. If they like it, great! If not, you can make changes to make it better. This way, you can be sure that the final product will be something people actually want to buy. Here’s what happened to a client of mine After taking steps to validate her product idea, she decided not to go ahead with it anymore. Why? Because she interviewed potential customers, made samples and collected feedback and realized that there was no strong value proposition for her product. She could not see why people would buy her product over others in the market. I’m really glad that she was able to reach this conclusion before going into production and getting frustrated, wasting limited resources only to not have customers.
